Privacy policy
Last updated 16 October 2026
SciRah helps students and researchers discover research papers. This policy explains what information we collect when you use SciRah, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile picture. If you sign up with a password, we store only a secure hash of it, never the password itself.
- What you do on SciRah — papers you save, topics you follow, searches you make while signed in, comments you post, and papers you add. We use these to run those features, your notifications and your personalised feed.
- Researcher profiles you claim — your ORCID iD and the patents / graduated-student numbers you enter.
- Basic technical data — such as your IP address, used briefly to prevent abuse (rate limits), and a sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in. Your light/dark theme choice is stored in your own browser.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell your personal information or share it with advertisers.
- We don’t show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don’t host or store research papers themselves — only their public details (title, authors, links).
Services we use
To provide SciRah we rely on a few trusted services, which process data only as needed to run the features:
- Google — for “Continue with Google” sign-in (we receive your name, email and profile picture).
- OpenAI — creates AI summaries, translations, voice-overs and illustrations. We send it the paper’s public title and abstract, never your personal details.
- Scholarly and news databases (OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, CORE, arXiv, PubMed, Google News, GDELT) — receive your search terms to find papers and news.
- Hosting — Vercel (website), Railway (server) and Neon (database) store and run SciRah.
Your choices
- You can edit your name, turn automatic topic alerts off, sign out of all devices, or delete your account at any time in Account settings. Deleting your account removes your personal data, saved papers, alerts, notifications and comments.
- You can delete individual followed topics and notifications on the notifications page.
AI-generated content
Summaries, translations, voice-overs and illustrations are generated by AI and can contain mistakes. They are shared with all SciRah users who open the same paper. See our Terms of service.
Children
SciRah is intended for university students, researchers and adults. It is not directed at children under 13.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date above. You can see, change or delete your account and all of its data at any time in Account settings.
