Abstract
Background: A 64-year-old man presented at the emergency department with tenesmus and three subsequent episodes of rectal bleeding with clots. Clinical examination revealed a slight tenderness of the left inguinal fossa on deep palpation accompanied by hyperperistalsis. No pulsating abdominal mass nor vascular bruit was found. Vital signs were stable and the patient had a temperature of 38.4°C. Palpation per anum revealed a little strain of fresh red blood. Laboratory findings showed leukocytosis (15.9 x 129/I) and elevated C-reactive protein (19.4 mg/dl).
