Abstract
Measles is a serious challenge to global public health due to its high rates of infant morbidity and mortality. It has high transmissibility and potential lethality, and the most effective measure to prevent future harm and death is vaccination. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the vaccination coverage of the MMR vaccine between the years of measles outbreaks in the State of Pará, 2018 to 2022. This is a retrospective and descriptive study, conducted through the analysis and interpretation of secondary data from the MMR Vaccination Coverage database, accessed through the TabNet DATASUS system. It was observed that the State of Pará did not reach the vaccination coverage target for MMR in any of the years, reaching its highest percentage in 2019 (82.8%). Only 100 (69.4%) of the state's 144 municipalities reached the target of ≥ 95% (D1 –Dose 1), and of these, 19 reached the ≥ 95% target in consecutive or alternating years. The state of Pará did not reach the measles vaccination coverage target established by the Ministry of Health during the study period, highlighting weaknesses in immunization, especially during outbreaks. The low coverage in much of the state keeps the population susceptible and favors the occurrence of new cases.
