Abstract
This book chapter reviews the types of surveillance systems (passive surveillance, active surveillance, and surveillance post vaccination) currently employed in most dengue-endemic countries and discusses the steps needed to improve the sensitivity and specificity of the surveillance system. It also projects the types of surveillance activities needed once a dengue vaccine becomes licensed and vaccination becomes incorporated into the childhood vaccination schedule.
