Abstract
This chapter focuses on viral factors associated with dengue pathogenesis. The evolution, viral fitness, epidemic potential and virulence of dengue virus are discussed. The clinical and epidemiological differences among dengue virus (DENV) serotypes, the genotypic associations with dengue disease severity and intra-epidemic increases in disease severity, and the pre-existing DENV immunity and DENV virulence are described.
