Abstract
This chapter describes the diagnosis, pathology and pathogenesis of dengue, focusing on histopathology, immunohistochemistry, molecular and other diagnostic modalities. Of the many pathogens within the clinical differential diagnosis, leptospirosis and viral haemorrhagic fevers including yellow fever will be highlighted because these diseases can have similar clinical pathological presentations and significant geographical overlap. Lastly, knowledge gaps are briefly highlighted where pathological studies could provide insight into the morbidity and mortality seen in the expanding dengue pandemic.
